The young monk’s first day.He is assigned to helping the other monksin copying the old canons and laws of thechurch by hand.
He notices, however, that all of the monksare copying from copies, not from the originalmanuscript. So, the new monk goes to thehead abbot to question this, pointing out thatif someone made even a small error in the firstcopy, it would never be picked up! In fact, thaterror would be continued in all of the subsequentcopies.
The head monk, says, 'We have been copyingfrom the copies for centuries, but you makea good point, my son.'He goes down into the dark caves underneaththe monastery where the original manuscripts
are held as archives in a locked vault that hasn'tbeen opened for hundreds of years. Hours goby and nobody sees the old abbot.
So, the young monk gets worried and goes downto look for him. He sees him banging his headagainst the wall and wailing."We missed the R !
